Micah Challenge

What is 'Micah Challenge'?

Here is the key verse that challenges us to act:

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the LORD require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. (Micah 6:8)

Micah Challenge is a global movement of churches, Christians and Christian organisations united to campaign for an end to poverty, and to see the fulfilment of the UN Millennium Development Goals.

United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon has told Christian leaders that he needs the anti-poverty movement Micah Challenge as an ally in the ongoing battle to end global poverty.

Mr Ban, speaking at a meeting of international Micah Challenge leaders and America's National Association of Evangelicals, described Christians around the world as "good allies" in the fight against poverty.

The Millennium Goals

Are you aware of these 8 goals set by the United Nations in the year 2000 – with definite targets to be achieved by 2015?

  1. Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger
  2. Achieve universal primary education
  3. Promote gender equality and empower women
  4. Reduce child mortality
  5. Improve maternal health
  6. Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
  7. Ensure environmental sustainability
  8. Develop a global partnership for development

The Micah Challenge, which we will be considering on Sunday 19th October, is a Christian response and commitment to play a full part in the process of achieving these goals. How can we play our part?
